A unique mark of growth
The biggest advantage of full-grain cowhide is its natural properties; the texture of each bag is unique. Natural top-grain cowhide has different wrinkles, textures, and pores—these are precisely the unique and authentic marks of cowhide! Just as no two palm prints are exactly alike, this shouldn't be considered a product defect.
The surface layer of genuine leather is called top-grain leather, which has natural texture and pores, and is tough, wear-resistant, and elastic. The leather fibers after the top-grain leather is peeled off are called second-layer leather, which requires a coating process to obtain a smooth surface.
Natural cowhide has irregular patterns, and the texture varies across different parts of the same piece of cowhide. There are even scars, blood vessels, and other marks from the cow's growth process, which cannot be imitated by humans.
The cross-section of first-layer cowhide clearly reveals its compact structure, while the reverse side is typically fuzzy. In contrast, second-layer leather, split leather, and recycled leather all exhibit loose fibrous tissue, with a distinct boundary between the fibrous tissue and the coating layer.
The surface of genuine leather feels soft and delicate when touched with a finger, offering a comfortable tactile experience. On the other hand, the surface of non-genuine leather, due to artificial coating and optimization layers, feels rubbery or has a distant feel akin to plastic sheeting.
The first-layer cowhide exhibits excellent ductility. A piece of first-layer cowhide measuring 9.8cm in length can be stretched to 10.9cm with just a gentle pull, achieving a stretching rate of 11.22%. Due to the elasticity inherent in genuine leather, if you press slightly around the surface, centripetal wrinkles will appear, and even a gentle fold reveals irregular natural wrinkles.
